Just days ahead of the Republic Day celebrations, the intelligence agencies on Saturday issued an alert warning against a possible attempt by Khalistani outfits and Bangladesh-based terror organisations to target New Delhi and several other cities across the country.

According to the Intelligence Bureau (IB), Punjab-based gangsters are “acting as foot soldiers for Khalistani and radical handlers operating from abroad," news agency ANI reported citing sources.

As per the alert, these gangsters are active across Haryana, Delhi-National Capital Region, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, and are gradually establishing links with Khalistani terrorist elements.

In view of the safety measures ahead of the Republic Day parade on January 26, North District Police conducted a series of simulated mock drills at vulnerable and crowded locations. The activity was done in order to check the preparedness and response time of various stakeholders and agencies.

Around four mock drill exercises were conducted earlier in January 2026 at sensitive locations across North Delhi, including areas such as Red Fort, ISBT Kashmere Gate, Chandni Chowk, Khari Baoli, Sadar Bazar and Metro stations.

The drills were aimed at augmenting anti-terror measures and sensitising the public and agencies to remain alert during potential terror-related incidents.

During the Republic Day celebrations, at least 30 tableaux will roll down Kartavya Path, providing a vivid display of India’s rich cultural heritage and developmental achievements.
