In yet another shocking incident, a female college student in Bengaluru has alleged rape and blackmail by three individuals — two of whom are lecturers from her own college. The accused were arrested after a formal complaint was filed with the Women’s Commission, which then directed the victim to approach the police.

According to the complaint, the student was first contacted by one of the accused, who claimed he had CCTV footage of her being raped.

This incident comes while the country is still grappling with the trauma of the Balasore case, where a female student from FM College died by suicide after alleged harassment by a professor — with no action taken against him. And now, here’s another case, this time from Karnataka, shaking the faith in the educational system once again.

The accused in the Bengaluru case are from a reputed institution in Moodabidri. The three — identified as Narendra (Physics Lecturer), Sandeep (Biology Lecturer), and Anup (a friend of the lecturers) — have been arrested on charges of repeated rape and criminal intimidation of the female student.

As per the student’s complaint:

  • Narendra initially approached her under the pretext of providing academic notes and guidance. Over time, they developed a rapport through chatting.

  • He later took her to Anup’s room in Marathahalli, Bengaluru, where he allegedly raped her and threatened her into silence.

  • Days later, Sandeep also allegedly attempted to assault her. When she resisted, he began blackmailing her with threats of circulating photos and videos of her with Narendra.

  • Fearing the consequences, the victim was allegedly raped again by Sandeep in the same room — which belonged to Anup.

Anup also allegedly threatened the victim, claiming he had CCTV footage of her and Narendra, and later raped her as well.

After these traumatic events, the student finally confided in her parents, who immediately approached the Women’s Commission. This led to the registration of an FIR at Marathahalli Police Station and the swift arrest of all three accused.

This deeply disturbing case raises serious concerns about the safety and dignity of female students within educational institutions. It also brings into question the failure of mechanisms that are supposed to protect students, especially when the accused are those in positions of authority.
