A man attacked a woman in New York City, using a belt to lasso her neck and drag her between two cars before sexually assaulting her. The incident was caught on surveillance cameras.

The man, whose identity remains unknown, attacked the woman in the city’s Bronx borough around 3 am on May 1, police said. The 45-year-old woman was walking along a sidewalk when the assailant approached her from behind.

Surveillance footage depicts the attacker, his face obscured by a white cloth, stealthily trailing the woman. Suddenly, he ensnared her neck with a belt, forcibly pulling her to the ground.

The victim, seen struggling to free herself from the belt, was dragged down the sidewalk by the assailant. As the woman appeared to black out, the attacker dragged her between two cars where he raped her while she was unconscious.

The man then fled the scene and is still being sought by police. The survivor was taken to NYC Health & Hospitals/Lincoln for treatment and is in stable condition.

According to reports, the suspect had just had a brief conversation with the woman before he attacked her.

The NYPD described the man as having a medium complexion, standing 5 feet 9 inches tall, wearing a black sweatshirt with white lettering that reads "GAP," white sweatpants and black-red-white sneakers.

The NYPD's Special Victims Unit is investigating the incident.
