The Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (CUMTA) has started trial runs for its new common ticketing mobile app called Anna Ride Booking.
Having said that, the app is expected to officially launch by the end of July, as per The Hindu.
The Anna Ride Booking app allows users to plan their entire city journey using one app and one ticket. Whether you’re travelling from Valasaravakkam to the airport or any other part of Chennai, the app will suggest a combination of transport options such as Metro Rail, MTC buses, autorickshaws, and even Namma Yatri cabs.
Commuters simply need to enter their start and end locations, choose their preferred mode(s) of transport, and pay via the app. A QR code will then be generated to be scanned on various transport services.
Trials are already underway on MTC buses and Metro Rail, while CUMTA works to include suburban and MRTS train services. Although the Indian Railways has given initial approval, a formal agreement is expected by August
Officials are also working closely with MTC to ensure accurate vehicle tracking and live timings are integrated. This will allow users to plan their trips better and reduce waiting time — a key issue for many Chennaiites.
Regular commuters are hopeful. S. Ramesh from Mogappair, who travels frequently to Pattabhiram and Chennai Central, said, “People don’t know the exact bus timings now. If this app solves that, it’ll help thousands — especially newcomers unfamiliar with train or bus timings."
Though delayed from its earlier schedule, Anna Ride Booking is finally on track. Once launched, it could change the way Chennai commutes.
