A BSF jawan posted in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, went missing from the battalion headquarters during the late hours of Thursday, July 31, sources said.

A massive search operation was launched to trace Sugam Choudhary, a member of the 60th Battalion stationed at Panthachowk. However, despite extensive efforts in nearby areas, he remains untraceable.

A missing report has been lodged, and further investigation is underway.

The incident comes amid an intensified anti-terror operation by security forces across various parts of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly following the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam.

In the last 100 days, 12 terrorists have been killed, including the Pahalgam attack mastermind, according to the security forces. Among those eliminated, six were identified as Pakistani terrorists, while the remaining six were locally recruited terrorists who were involved in recent terror strikes.

The mastermind behind the Pahalgam attack was killed on July 28 during Operation Mahadev, along with two others, in the Dachigam area of Srinagar. Just a day later, Operation ShivShakti was launched in the Poonch sector, resulting in the elimination of two more terrorists.

Several terror operatives and sympathisers have also been arrested as part of the months-long crackdown in the region.

Sources familiar with the operations said it is difficult to pinpoint an exact number of such missions, as security units across Jammu and Kashmir continue to conduct regular operations in their respective zones.
