On Friday, Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh received a menacing WhatsApp voice message in which an unidentified caller, claiming ties to the Bishnoi outfit, warned that the actor’s entire staff would be harmed unless he “fell in line.” The same voice message also names filmmaker Rohit Shetty, saying both men should heed the gang’s demands or face dire consequences.
The caller tells the actor he had “gone back on his word” and threatens to target everyone who works under him, managers, office staff and their families rather than the actor directly, so that “you will come to your senses.” The voice note repeatedly warns that those who do not “fall in line” will be made to “remember it for seven generations.”
In the voice note, the man mentions Singh, stating that rather than causing him harm, they will target his staff, claiming to have information about them.
"Ranveer Singh, you enjoy giving advice, suggesting that people should file applications or report matters to the police. That's fine, and you did it as well, no issues there. But now, hear me out. Everyone who works for you- managers or staff we possess their information: their addresses, their office hours, their return times, and even where their families reside. We have all the necessary details. We won’t confront you directly, we'll begin to harm them. That’s when you’ll realize the gravity of the situation," the man states.
The threat also includes Rohit Shetty, urging both of them to "fall in line."
Without elaborating on Singh's comments, the man is heard reminding him to keep his word.
Later, addressing the entire Bollywood community, the man asserts that everyone they contact must "fall in line" and warns of repercussions if they fail to comply.
A significant development in the case came as investigators from the Mumbai Crime Branch traced the audio to an individual reportedly known as Harry Boxer, an associate linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and have launched a forensic voice examination to confirm the sender’s identity. Authorities are also probing whether the audio was circulated using network-masking tools.
The threat follows an earlier extortion-style voice note allegedly demanding money and prompting the actor and his wife, Deepika Padukone, to beef up security outside their Mumbai residence. An official letter from their housing complex, sent to the local police, records the deployment of six-armed private guards and uniformed police personnel at the couple’s home, a move that has since raised concerns among other residents and the society’s managing committee.
Police sources say cyber-forensics teams are examining the clip and related digital traces including checks for VPN usage and the possibility that the gang’s name was invoked to amplify fear while statements are being recorded from the actor’s staff and management as part of the probe. The Mumbai Police and Crime Branch have both been notified and are coordinating the investigation.
Industry reaction has been swift but measured colleagues and production houses are watching developments closely, and the police have been asked to provide protection where required. The probe appears to be moving quickly: sources indicate attempts are underway to trace the origin of the clip and identify whether it was recorded by a known gang member or by someone impersonating them.
