Bihar Weather Update: Yellow Alert in 31 Districts

Bihar is witnessing active monsoon conditions on Wednesday, September 2, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a yellow alert for 31 districts. Thunderstorms, lightning, strong winds and rainfall are likely in several parts of the state.

Heavy rainfall is expected in Gaya, Nawada and Jamui today. The IMD has warned of intense showers in parts of south Bihar, while rain activity is likely to continue over southern and eastern districts during the next 24 hours.

Yellow Alert in 31 Districts

A yellow alert is in place for Patna, Bhagalpur, Gaya, Muzaffarpur, Ara, Chhapra, Siwan, Gopalganj, Motihari, Bettiah, Kaimur, Rohtas, Aurangabad, Nawada, Arwal, Jehanabad, Buxar, Sheikhpura, Nalanda, Munger, Begusarai, Lakhisarai, Jamui, Banka, Khagaria, Samastipur, Vaishali, Darbhanga, Sitamarhi, Madhubani and Sheohar.

Some areas of these districts may experience thunderstorms, lightning, strong winds and rain.

Heavy Rain Alert for South Bihar

Gaya, Nawada and Jamui are under a heavy rainfall warning today. South Bihar is likely to receive intense showers, while monsoon activity remains comparatively weaker over the Kosi and Seemanchal regions.

Gaya Recorded Highest Rainfall on September 1

Monsoon activity remained strong across several parts of Bihar on Tuesday, September 1. Gaya recorded the highest rainfall at 55.4 mm. Patna also received a spell of heavy rain in the evening, leading to waterlogging in several areas.

Weather Outlook

A cyclonic circulation over Odisha and Jharkhand is influencing weather conditions in the region and is likely to move northwestwards. Its impact is being felt across Bihar.

Temperatures in southern Bihar are also expected to fall by around 2–3°C over the next two days.
