A dowry case was filed against a man and his family in Bhopal after he allegedly demanded a car a day before his wedding and called off the marriage when his demand was refused.

The bride’s family accused the groom of demanding a Thar jeep, the price of which ranges between Rs 11.50 lakh and around Rs 18 lakh, just before the reception. When they refused, he did not arrive with the wedding procession. The groom, however, has denied the allegations.

The wedding was scheduled for Friday at a marriage garden in Bhopal’s Koh-e-Fiza area. The bride's family, relatives, and guests waited all night, but the groom and his family did not arrive. Subsequently, the bride’s family went to the local police station and filed a complaint.

According to the complaint, three days before the wedding, the groom allegedly demanded cash and jewellery as well, along with the car. He reportedly warned that he would not bring the wedding procession if his demands were not met. The bride initially thought he was joking. She claimed that the groom cited business losses as the reason for requesting cash.

Chauhan has denied the allegations, saying that his family is financially stable and did not ask for a dowry. He claimed that he had been unwilling to marry for the past year but was pressured by the bride’s family.

Police have registered a case under the Dowry Prohibition Act against the groom, his parents, and his sister-in-law.
