Chaos erupted at a college in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur after students alleged a brutal assault by security guards and professors for arriving five minutes late to the campus. Many students, including two women, were injured and have been hospitalised or are receiving treatment due to the assault.

The incident happened at the Maharana Pratap Engineering College when late-arriving students sounded the horns of their bikes, requesting the guards to open the gate. This angered the guards and they began thrashing the students. The guards also informed the college professors about the situation, who allegedly came down to the gate and joined in.

Visuals from the scene showed some students bleeding profusely from their arms as they were rushed to a nearby hospital. Students alleged that they were thrashed, slapped, punched, including the women.

As a result, students staged a big protest, demanding action against the security guards and faculty members involved. Based on the students' complaint, a case has been lodged. The police have also detained several guards and launched an investigation.

"We received information about the students' protests. After we came here, we learnt that the chaos was because of late-arriving students, who alleged they were beaten up by security guards. We have lodged a case based on their complaint. The students have placed certain demands before us and we are in talks with them. Currently, the situation is under control," Senior cop Qasim Abidi said.
