The Jaffar Express train was attacked near Sultankot area, close to the Sindh-Balochistan border, on Tuesday when a planted explosive device detonated on the tracks. Multiple coaches of the train, en route to Quetta, were derailed following the blast. Reports from initial rescue operations confirm several injuries, though the full extent of damage and casualties remains unclear. Rescue teams and security forces are conducting relief efforts, with medical crews treating the wounded and officials investigating the origin of the attack.

The Jaffar Express has been targeted multiple times over recent months, underscoring persistent security challenges in the region. In August 2025, an IED explosion derailed six coaches of the same train in Mastung district of Balochistan. The incident left a few passengers with minor injuries and halted services temporarily.

Earlier, in March 2025, militants of the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) hijacked the Jaffar Express in Bolan Pass, taking over 400 passengers hostage in a protracted standoff. During that attack, explosives were used to damage the track, firing erupted, and both hostages and security forces suffered casualties before the situation was brought under control.

Balochistan remains a volatile province, with separatist groups continuing to stage attacks on infrastructure, security forces, and transport links. The frequency of attacks like those on the Jaffer Express highlights concerns about both passenger safety and stability in border-areas between Sindh and Balochistan.
