Influencer and reservation-reform activist Ajeet Bharti has responded after Delhi Police registered an FIR against him under provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act over alleged remarks concerning Nagina MP and Azad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram) chief Chandrashekhar Azad.

Calling the FIR "pressure-driven", Bharti alleged that members of the Azad Samaj Party had pressured police to register the case. He claimed the case would not withstand judicial scrutiny. There was no immediate response from Delhi Police or the Azad Samaj Party to these allegations.

Activist Tehseen Poonawalla has publicly backed Bharti, while stating that people can disagree with the influencer and still support his right to due process. Poonawalla also questioned what he described as differences in police action in other protest-related incidents.

The movement has generated sharp political and social reactions. Chandrashekhar Azad's party has opposed several of the demands, while Union minister Chirag Paswan has defended reservations, saying they were not a form of charity.

The controversy has also brought renewed attention to the debate over the boundaries of political speech, online commentary and caste-related discourse. Bharti has argued that his statements should be viewed in the context of what he described as provocation, while the complaint against him alleges that his remarks crossed legal and social boundaries. These competing claims have not been conclusively established.

The case comes at a time when discussions around reservation have become increasingly contentious, with disagreements playing out both at public demonstrations and across social media platforms. The August 21 Jantar Mantar protest was part of a broader campaign seeking changes to the existing reservation framework, while opponents have criticised the movement as a challenge to protections intended to address historical caste-based discrimination.
