Bhopal: A medical board at Delhi's AIIMS has concluded that former model and actress Twisha Sharma died by suicide, while the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has alleged that prolonged mental cruelty at her marital home contributed to her death.

Twisha was found dead at her marital residence in Bhopal on May 12, 2026, months after marrying Samarth Singh. Her death subsequently became the subject of a CBI investigation following allegations by her family that she had faced harassment and emotional abuse from her husband and mother-in-law, Giribala Singh.

The CBI has now presented evidence from messages, telephone records, CCTV footage, medical documents and witness statements as part of its investigation.

Pregnancy allegations form part of investigation

The CBI also examined events surrounding Twisha's pregnancy.

According to the agency, Twisha underwent medical treatment relating to termination of pregnancy, following which her mother-in-law allegedly pressured her to reconsider the decision.

Investigators further alleged that Samarth repeatedly questioned Twisha about the paternity of the pregnancy.

The CBI has cited messages exchanged between Twisha and her family as part of its case concerning the alleged emotional pressure she was experiencing.

The agency also examined allegations that Twisha was being portrayed as mentally unstable, as well as claims relating to alleged drug use within the couple's personal life.

CCTV and call records examined

Investigators reconstructed the circumstances surrounding Twisha's death using CCTV footage and telephone records.

The CBI examined footage from the residence as well as calls involving Twisha, her family members and the accused.

The investigation indicated that family members attempted to contact Twisha after receiving concerning communications. The agency also examined the movements of people present at the residence around the time of her death.

Twisha was subsequently taken for medical treatment, but doctors declared her dead.

AIIMS examinations conclude suicide

Following concerns raised by Twisha's family about the circumstances of her death, post-mortem examinations were conducted in Bhopal and later at Delhi AIIMS.

The Delhi AIIMS medical board concluded that her death was due to ante-mortem hanging and was consistent with suicide.

The examination also found no other injuries of medico-legal significance that, according to the report, indicated an assault or physical struggle immediately before her death.

The finding forms an important part of the investigation, which has simultaneously focused on the alleged mental cruelty Twisha experienced before her death.

CBI awaits forensic reports

The investigation remains active in certain areas, with forensic findings from electronic evidence still awaited.

Twisha's iPhone has reportedly been sent to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory in New Delhi for data extraction. Investigators hope the device could provide additional information relevant to the case.

The CBI is also awaiting a forensic examination of a digital video recorder recovered from the residence. According to the agency, the forensic examination could help establish whether any evidence was altered or tampered with and whether further legal action is warranted.

Twisha Sharma case

Twisha, who was in her early 30s, had reportedly met Samarth Singh through a dating platform in 2024. The couple married in December 2025.

Her family subsequently accused her husband and in-laws of harassment, including allegations relating to dowry and mental and physical abuse.

Samarth Singh was arrested in Jabalpur on May 22, after remaining unavailable to investigators for several days. He had subsequently surrendered to authorities.

The CBI's findings have now placed renewed focus on the circumstances leading up to Twisha's death. While the medical board has concluded that she died by suicide, the criminal investigation is examining whether alleged harassment and mental cruelty played a role in her death and whether any other individuals could face legal consequences.
