9 Killed, Several Injured After Fire Sweeps Through Kolkata Hotel

A massive fire at a Kolkata hotel killed nine people and injured six others, with the victims said to be Bangladeshi nationals who had come to the city for treatment.

Nine people were killed and six others injured after a massive fire broke out at a hotel in Kolkata in the early hours of Wednesday, officials said.

According to Fire Department officials who spoke to news agency ANI, the victims were Bangladeshi nationals who had travelled to Kolkata for medical treatment.

The fire broke out at the hotel during the early morning hours, prompting fire and emergency services to rush to the spot. Firefighters launched a rescue and firefighting operation and brought the blaze under control.

The six injured people were taken to a hospital for treatment. Their condition was not immediately known.

The cause of the fire remains unclear.

Authorities are investigating the incident and are expected to inspect the hotel premises to determine how the blaze started.
