5 killed, 17 injured after bus loses control, overturns in Uttarakhand

Upon receiving the information about the accident, Pauri Garwhal district officials, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and police teams left for the spot.

Five people died and around 17 were injured after a bus overturned and plunged 100 metres down the hill in Uttarakhand's Pauri Garhwal district on Sunday.

The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital where they are receiving treatment.

Upon receiving the information about the accident, Pauri Garwhal district officials, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and police teams left for the spot as per the instructions of Arpan Yadav, Commander SDRF.

Meanwhile, locals also reached the scene to help out those injured.

The bus, with a total of 22 people on board, met with the accident when it was enroute from Pauri to Dahalchori, officials said.

Pauri Police and locals carried out a rescue operation on the spot and a total of 18 injured were taken out and sent to the hospital, while four people died on the spot. One of the injured later died in hospital during treatment.

The dead bodies were also taken to the hospital for necessary action.
