A 40-year-old engineer died early on Wednesday when a section of the main gate at sports complex in Patna collapsed on him, officials said.

According to police, Sajja Murthy, a resident of Petbasheerabad in Andhra Pradesh, had been overseeing construction work at the Patliputra Sports Complex in Kankarbagh under a contractor since May. The accident occurred around 3.30 am when no one was nearby, leaving him trapped and unable to get help.

He reportedly struggled for hours before succumbing to his injuries.

The body was discovered by morning walkers, who alerted the police. CCTV footage from Murthy's home shows a truck leaving the complex shortly before the incident. Authorities suspect the gate fell while being closed after the truck's passage, crushing Murthy underneath.

Police have taken the body into custody for post-mortem examination and informed the family, who are yet to reach Patna. A thorough investigation into the circumstances of the collapse is underway.
