4 killed, over 24 injured as bus falls into gorge near Uttarakhand's Bhimtal

A bus headed to Haldwani from Almora lost control and fell into a gorge near Uttarakhand's Bhimtal town. Rescue operations are underway.

Four people died and over 24 were injured after a bus fell into a gorge near Uttarakhand's Bhimtal town on Wednesday. Amongst those dead are two women, a man and a child.

So far, 21 people have been rescued and those injured have been taken to a hospital in Bhimtal.

The bus, headed to Haldwani from Almora, lost control and fell into a 1,500-ft deep gorge near Bhimtal.

As a result, many passengers were thrown off the bus. Those injured

Police, SDRF teams, fire officials and locals are engaged in rescue operations. People are being pulled out of the gorge using ropes.

Fifteen ambulances have been sent to the accident site from Haldwani.

The Uttarakhand government has announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for families of those who died in the accident.

Besides, a compensation of Rs 3 lakh has been announced for the families of those critically injured, and Rs 15-25,000 for the families of others injured people.
