2 security personnel killed, 31 Naxals gunned down in Chhattisgarh encounter

The encounter took place in a forest in Indravati National Park area this morning when a joint team of personnel from different security forces was out on an anti-Naxalite operation.

Two security personnel were killed, and two others sustained injuries in an encounter with Naxalites in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Sunday. Security forces also killed 31 Naxalites during the encounter.

A senior police official told PTI that one of two security personnel killed belonged to the state police's District Reserve Guard and the other from the Special Task Force.

The encounter took place in a forest in Indravati National Park area this morning when a joint team of personnel from different security forces was out on an anti-Naxalite operation.

“A total of 31 Naxalites have been killed in an encounter with security forces in the forests under the National Park area of District Bijapur. Search operation is going on,” IG Bastar, P Sundarraj said.

Bodies of all of them have been recovered. We are trying to identify them, a senior police official said.

A large quantity of AK-47, SLR, INSAS rifles, .303, BGL launcher weapons, and explosive materials were recovered from the encounter site.

The injured security personnel are reported to be out of danger and are being shifted to a higher medical centre for better treatment. Additional forces have been dispatched as reinforcements, and a search operation is ongoing in the area.
