At least 16 people were killed and 10 others injured in a horrific road accident near Khanapur Gate in Chevella mandal on Monday morning, after a speeding truck travelling on the wrong side of the road rammed head-on into a Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGRTC) bus.
The collision, which occurred under the Cyberabad Commissionerate limits, was so powerful that several passengers died instantly. The mangled remains of the vehicles bore testimony to the force of the impact. Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos and panic as local residents and police rushed to pull out the injured from the wreckage.
Emergency teams were deployed immediately, and the injured were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment. Authorities confirmed that several of the injured are in a critical condition. Traffic along the stretch was disrupted for hours as rescue operations and clearing work continued.
Telangana Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and instructed officials to extend all possible assistance to the victims and their families. He also directed that the injured receive the best possible medical care and ordered an inquiry into the cause of the accident.
Officials are examining whether the crash was a result of negligence or overspeeding. Preliminary reports suggest that the truck was driving on the wrong side of the road when it collided with the passenger bus coming from the opposite direction.
