A tourist boat capsized off Calangute beach in Goa, killing one person. Around 20 people have been rescued.

One person died, and around 20 others were rescued after a tourist boat capsised off Calangute beach in North Goa on Wednesday, police said.

A lifeguard at the beach stated that they had rescued at least 13 people but noted that the exact number remains unknown.

"We don't know the exact number of people but around 6 people from the same family who were stuck under the boat were in a critical situation...We don't know the reason for the incident. Out of those 6 people, one has died," he told news agency ANI.

According to local media reports, the boat was carrying tourists from Maharashtra.

The incident occurred amid heavy footfall in Goa on Christmas Day.
