Five people, including a child, were killed and more than 50 others injured after a US missile strike sent shrapnel into a residential home hosting a wedding in southern Iran, the Iranian Red Crescent said on Tuesday.

The Red Crescent said the strike hit a home in Kuhestak, in Sirik County of Hormozgan province, where a wedding celebration was under way.

“Following a US missile attack, shrapnel hit a residential home in the city of Kuhestak," the Red Crescent said in a post on X. It added that more than 50 people were injured and four, including a young child, were killed.

Iranian government media also shared video showing what it said was the aftermath of the strike. The footage showed extensive debris and damage at the reported site, while people could be heard screaming in the background. The footage and casualty figures could not be independently verified.

The updated figures came after Ahmad Nafisi, deputy governor of Hormozgan province, initially told state television that two people had been killed and several others wounded.

Sirik County lies along the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route that has become a major flashpoint in the conflict between Washington and Tehran.

Iranian authorities said rescue teams were sent to the area following the strike, while officials continued to assess the damage and casualties.

It was not immediately clear what target the US military was seeking to hit in Sirik County.

Iran Calls Strike A ‘War Crime’

Hormozgan’s deputy governor for security affairs said the residential property was struck and rescue teams were immediately deployed. He described the attack as a “war crime", while saying further details would be released.

Iranian state broadcaster IRIB had earlier reported that people attending a wedding in Sirik were wounded by shrapnel from a US attack.

The reports came amid a fresh wave of US strikes across southern Iran, including areas around the strategic Strait of Hormuz. Iranian media also reported explosions in several locations and an attack on an airport in Kerman province.

Trump, Iran Trade Strikes

The attack came as tensions between Washington and Tehran escalated sharply.

US Central Command said its latest strikes followed what it described as attempted attacks by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards against commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and US personnel in the region.

US President Donald Trump said the strikes were carried out in response to Iran’s alleged attempt to lay sea mines in the Strait and missile launches towards a US military base in Jordan.

Trump warned that Iran would face a “much harder and higher" US response if it retaliated.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards spokesman Sardar Hossein Mohebi, meanwhile, said the United States would “regret its new attacks", warning that “severe punishment awaits the aggressors".

Iranian news agency Tasnim later reported that Tehran had launched a “decisive operation", saying Iranian missiles and drones were targeting US bases and interests in the region.
