US President Donald Trump on Wednesday sharply criticised Democrats over what he described as “open border" policies while introducing the proposed Delilah Law. This measure would bar undocumented immigrants from obtaining commercial driver’s licenses in the US.
Framing the proposal as a public safety initiative, President Trump also introduced a young girl, Delilah, who lost her limbs in an accident involving a Truck driver who was reportedly in the country unlawfully.
Delivering his annual State of the Union (SOTU) address to Congress, the US President argued that stricter immigration enforcement could prevent similar tragedies in the future. Trump used the moment to renew his attacks on Democratic leaders, accusing them of enabling what he called a “border invasion" through lenient immigration policies.
“We are deporting them, we don’t want them, get the hell out fast," the Republican leader said, referring to undocumented immigrants accused of committing crimes. He also cited several crime cases in which perpetrators were reportedly in the country unlawfully, asserting that such incidents underscored the need for tougher border controls.
“Democrats allowed border invasion, the only person standing between an open border is President Trump and the great Republican Congress," Trump added.
Trump further called for increased federal support for immigration enforcement. “Tonight I am demanding immediate restoration of funds for border security," he remarked, emphasising that border protection should be a national priority.
“It’s the duty of the American government to protect American citizens, not illegal aliens," he stated. The proposed Delilah Law is expected to intensify the ongoing political debate over immigration policy, as border security remains a central issue in the national discourse.
