Pakistan allegedly launched an unprecedented attack on Afghanistan on Monday, striking the Syed Jamaluddin Afghani University in the Asadabad area of the Kunar Province, affecting thousands of students and exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the country.

Local sources told media that the Pakistani military launched attacks at various areas in Kunar province, some of which also struck the university. So far, only three people have reportedly been injured in the attack.

The attacks are reported to have severely disrupted education in the Kunar province, with multiple schools and higher education institutions damaged or forced to close. Civilian infrastructure in nearby districts has also been hit in successive Pakistani attacks.

Taliban sources told media that the latest unprovoked airstrikes by Pakistan on educational institutions and civilian areas in Kunar represented a blatant violation of sovereignty and international norms.

They described the targeting of a university and the shelling of academic facilities as an “act of aggression", which can lead to dangerous consequences for students, professors and civilians in an already war-torn region.

The Taliban said such reckless escalation undermined regional stability and reflects poorly on Pakistan’s approach to its neighbours. They also called on the international community to hold Pakistan accountable and demanded an immediate halt to these operations.
