Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday held his first telephone conversation with UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham and congratulated him on assuming office at 10 Downing Street.

Sharing details of the call on X, PM Modi said the two leaders agreed to deepen cooperation across a wide range of sectors, including technology, innovation, defence, security, clean energy, education and people-to-people exchanges.

“We agreed to work together to take the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership to new heights," the Prime Minister said.

PM Modi also said both countries would work closely to fully leverage the trade and investment opportunities arising from the recently operationalised India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), aimed at boosting economic growth and prosperity in both nations.

Burnham, 56, is a senior Labour Party leader who served as Mayor of Greater Manchester from 2017 until taking over as Prime Minister. His conversation with Modi marks one of his early engagements with global leaders since assuming office.
