Donald Trump Posts New Map Showing Canada, Venezuela And Greenland As US Territories

Trump has also threatened hefty new tariffs on European allies who oppose his plan to buy Greenland.

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday posted a map of the United States of America, showing Canada, Venezuela and Greenland as part of the US territories.

The map, which seems to be AI-generated, was posted by Trump on his Truth Social platform. This came amid his war of words with European allies over Greenland.

Shortly, Trump posted another photo, in which he was seen putting the USA flag in Greenland along with Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, with a message “Greenland US Territory Est 2026"

After coming to power last year, Trump had made an offer to make Canada the 51st state of the USA. However, the Canadian government dismissed the offer, leading to a bitter trade war between the two neighbours.

Earlier this month, US special forces conducted an operation in Venezuela and captured President Nicolas Maduro and his wife from Caracas, whisking them to New York to face trial on drug charges. Since then, Trump has said that the United States will “run" Venezuela and that US companies will control its oil — the largest proven reserves in the world. He has also warned interim president Delcy Rodriguez to toe Washington’s line or face consequences.

However, this is the first time Trump has made an explicit claim on Venezuela.

Why Trump Wants Greenland

Trump has repeatedly said the USA needs vast, mineral-rich Greenland for “national security", despite the United States already having a base on the island and security agreements with NATO ally Denmark.

On Monday, Trump said he no longer feels obliged to think “purely of peace" after being snubbed for a Nobel prize, ramping up his campaign to take over Greenland.

In an extraordinary exchange with Norway’s prime minister, Trump questioned Denmark’s right to the vast Arctic island, over which he said he wanted “complete and total control".

“Considering your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace," Trump wrote to Norway’s Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store.

Trump has also threatened hefty new tariffs on European allies who oppose his plan to buy Greenland, raising alarm in allied capitals and sending stock markets plummeting when they opened on Monday.
