A video of the Russian helicopter that crashed, leaving at least 5 dead, has emerged online. The clip captures moments when the tragic crash occurred.
At first, the chopper is seen tilting dangerously while attempting to take off from a sandy stretch near the shoreline. Moments later, it hovers low above the water, struggling to stabilise as the waves crash beneath it.
The helicopter’s tail broke off just before it crashed. The pilot managed to lift it slightly over the shallow water but soon lost control, and the aircraft went down.
In the final moments, the helicopter veers sharply before plunging into the water, followed by a plume of spray.
What Happened?
As many as five people were killed after a Russian Ka-226 helicopter with senior staff from a defence-linked aviation company onboard crashed near Achi-Su village on Friday.
The victims include the deputy general director, the chief engineer, and the chief designer from KEMZ, along with the helicopter’s flight mechanic.
According to Russian media reports, the helicopter was en route from Kizlyar to Izberbash when it caught fire mid-air, forcing the crew to attempt an emergency landing.
Eyewitnesses said the pilot tried to land the aircraft on a beach along the Caspian Sea, but it ultimately went down in the yard of a private residence in the Karabudakhkent district.
The crash also sparked a blaze that spread across an area of nearly 80 square metres before firefighters managed to put it out.
