The convoy of Balochistan Home Minister Mir Ziaullah Langove came under attack in the Khad Kocha area of Mastung district on Friday. Six people sustained bullet injuries in the incident, including three police personnel.
Langove was not hurt in the attack and continued to be safe, a senior police official told Dawn.
The home minister was travelling from Kalat to Quetta when his convoy reached the Khad Kocha area of Mastung, where the attack took place.
A senior police official confirmed to Dawn that Langove remained unhurt. The official said six people were wounded by bullets, including three members of the police force.
The attack occurred while the convoy was on its way to Quetta from Kalat.
Dr Sana of Nawab Raisani Memorial Hospital also confirmed to Dawn that six injured people had been brought to the hospital following the attack.
She said two of those admitted were in serious condition. Two others were referred to Quetta for further treatment.
The details provided did not specify the identities of those injured beyond confirming that three of them were police personnel.
Following the attack, security forces cordoned off the area and began a search operation.
The security operation was launched in the Khad Kocha area of Mastung after the convoy was attacked.
Langove belongs to the Balochistan Awami Party. He took charge as the provincial home minister in March after being sworn into the post.
The attack targeted his convoy as he travelled between Kalat and Quetta, but the minister himself was not injured, according to the senior police official.
