A 25-year-old student from Telangana’s Kamareddy district, who had gone to the United Kingdom for higher studies, was found dead under mysterious circumstances, his family said on Saturday.
According to a report by news agency PTI, the deceased has been identified as S Srinath Reddy, a resident of Talamadla village in Kamareddy district. According to family members, he had moved to London around 14 months ago.
Srinath was pursuing his Master's degree from the De Montfort University in Leicester, according to a GoFundMe page purportedly created by his cousins, Sanoj and Manish, to "help cover the costs of repatriating" the body.
Srinath's father, Madhusudan Reddy, told reporters that the family was yet to receive clarity on the circumstances surrounding his son’s death and appealed to both the Centre and the Telangana government to help expedite the repatriation of his body.
According to the family, the man had spoken to them on the night of June 22, and nothing unusual was noticed during the conversation.
Madhusudan Reddy said his son had reportedly attended a birthday gathering later that night.
A relative of the family, whose son also lives in London, said Srinath’s roommate allegedly found him dead on the morning of June 23.
The roommate reportedly told friends that Srinath had died by suicide.
According to the family, information about the incident reached them only later through friends and acquaintances.
Authorities in the United Kingdom have yet to publicly comment on the case, and further details regarding the circumstances of the death were not immediately available.
The family has urged authorities to facilitate the early return of Srinath’s mortal remains to India.
