Vishnu Manchu's highly anticipated film, Kannappa, which hit theatres on June 27, 2025, has been making waves among fans. As its theatrical run slowly comes to a close, fans are eagerly awaiting its OTT release. Meanwhile, in a recent development, Vishnu has shared insights into another ambitious project that he had once envisioned – a film adaptation of the epic Ramayana, centered around Ravana.

According to a report in 123 Telugu, Vishnu Manchu revealed that back in 2009, he and renowned director K. Raghavendra Rao had planned to collaborate on a film that would focus on the complex character of Ravana, with the talented Mohan Babu set to bring the iconic villain to life on the big screen.

The project had seemingly reached an advanced stage of development, with the full script and dialogues already completed. However, despite the promising setup, the film ultimately failed to materialise due to the enormity of its budget.

Manchu also shared that he had a star-studded cast in mind, with Suriya set to play the revered role of Lord Rama and Alia Bhatt essaying Sita. Vishnu even went as far as discussing the idea with Suriya. As for himself, Vishnu had envisioned playing Hanuman, but director K. Raghavendra Rao had an alternative suggestion – casting him as Indrajit, Ravana's son, while Kalyan Ram was set to take on the character of Lakshmana. Another key role, Jatayu, was earmarked for Sathyaraj.

The burning question on everyone's mind now is whether Vishnu Manchu will breathe new life into his long-conceived vision of the Ramayana film, centered around the complex character of Ravana. If he does decide to move forward, another intriguing aspect will be whether the star-studded cast he had envisioned – including Suriya as Lord Rama, Alia Bhatt as Sita and others – will come on board to bring this epic tale to life.
