Comedian and Bigg Boss 19 contestant Pranit More has issued a public apology after a clip from one of his recent comedy shows went viral on social media, drawing criticism from viewers. The controversy erupted after More was seen laughing at an audience member’s derogatory remark about a woman during crowdwork segment of the show. As the video went viral, several netizens called out the comedian for his reaction, and slammed him for laughing it off instead of condemning the comment. After the backlash, Pranit More issued an apology, and admitted he should have challenged the derogatory remark instead of laughing it off.
Pranit More took to his Instagram stories to address the incident and clarify his stance. He acknowledged that his response in the moment was inappropriate and accepted responsibility for it. “I’ve seen the criticism regarding a recent crowdwork clip. The comments made by the audience member do not reflect my views. Looking back, I should have challenged the remark instead of laughing and moving on. That was a lapse in judgment on my part," he wrote.
“Live crowdwork often involves reacting in real time, but that’s not an excuse. I take the feedback seriously and will be more thoughtful in how I handle similar situations going forward," he further added. He also revealed that the video has been taken down from all platforms. “We’ve also removed the video from all our platforms, as I don’t want to amplify or normalise those views," he wrote.
More also expressed regret over the incident and assured fans that he would learn from the experience. He stated that the episode had made him reflect on the responsibility performers have while engaging with audiences. “I appreciate everyone who raised their concerns respectfully. I sincerely apologise for whatever happened, and I’ll take this lesson forward. I’m human, and like anyone else, I’m constantly learning. Being called out when I get something wrong doesn’t make me smaller but it helps me grow. I accept that I could have handled this better, and I’ll be more mindful that I never unintentionally support or normalise such views in the future," he wrote.
Pranit More has come under fire after a clip from a recent crowdwork segment of his stand-up show surfaced online. The video shows an audience member sharing an anecdote about a date, which viewers found offensive and misogynistic.
In the clip, the man shared a story about his date with a woman. Recounting the incident, he said that he and his date visited a local market, where he asked the woman what she wanted to eat. The two ended up having chicken biryani on their date, and the bill came to around Rs 360-370.
The man said, “Phir wo kehti hai ki ghar chodh aao (She then asked me to drop her at home)." He responded to her by saying that since he had already spent Rs 370 on the meal, he intended to “recover" the amount. “Maine kaha yaar 370 rupaye lage hai, wasool toh karunga (I have spent Rs 370, I am going to get my money’s worth)," he shared with the comedian and the audience.
The remark drew laughter from the audience, and More was also seen laughing along. He did not challenge or address the comment, later describing the exchange as a “peak Gurgaon moment."
As the clip went viral on social media, many users criticised the comedian for his response. Several felt that by laughing at the joke rather than calling it out, More appeared to dismiss the problematic nature of the remark.
