Fans of the popular Korean drama series Squid Game received an unexpected New Year’s treat as Netflix Korea accidentally unveiled the release date for the highly anticipated third season. A teaser video shared on the streaming giant's official YouTube channel seemed to announce the premiere date.

The clip featured Young-hee, the iconic robot from the infamous Red Light, Green Light game, being moved to a new setting where she encounters another robot, Chul-soo.

The video, identical to the post-credit scene from Season two, has sparked speculation about a new game in the upcoming season. Titled “Squid Game Season 3, 2025 Release”, the teaser’s description briefly mentioned, “Watch ‘Squid Game’ on Netflix on June 27.”

Fans thronged to social media and shared their excitement about the same. They are speculating whether the leak was an actual mistake or a deliberate move by Netflix to stir up excitement and conversation.

One of the X users wrote, “GUY THIS COMMENT CLAIMING THAT SQUID GAME SEASON 3 WILL RELEASE JUNE 27...Thank to Netflix Korea uploaded it by accident and the video was deleted (sic)” while another user wrote, “Netflix accidentally reveals that the final season of ‘SQUID GAME’ releases on June 27 (sic).”

While many refer to the upcoming release as Squid Game Season 3, creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has explained that it is more of a continuation of Season 2, or Part 2, rather than a completely new season. Hwang initially envisioned Squid Game as a single series. However, as the story evolved and gained global fame and immense love, it became too vast to fit into one season. The narrative, which follows Gi-hun’s return to the game and his mission to spark a rebellion, naturally split into two parts.

According to reports by OSEN on January 1, DiCaprio is set to make a surprise cameo in Season 3 of Squid Game. While the role is said to be minor, the specifics remain tightly under wraps to avoid spoilers. Netflix, however, has denied these claims, stating, "We also heard about Leonardo DiCaprio's appearance, but it's not true."

Both seasons of Squid Game are available on Netflix. Season 2 has seven episodes in total.
