The Drishyam franchise, one of Malayalam cinema’s most successful thriller series, appears set to continue with a fourth instalment. The Mohanlal-led series has built a strong following with its suspense-driven narrative and the story of Georgekutty, whose efforts to protect his family have formed the central theme of the films.

The announcement comes shortly after Mohanlal confirmed a lineup of seven films with seven different directors. The list also included a project with filmmaker Jeethu Joseph, who directed the previous Drishyam films. It remains unclear whether that collaboration will be Drishyam 4 or a separate project.

As the investigation progresses, several characters from Georgekutty’s past, including Rajan, Sahadevan, Prabhakar and Geetha, seek to settle old scores. A plan is eventually devised to implicate Georgekutty and his daughter Anju in Varun’s death. When the plan goes wrong, Georgekutty discovers the conspiracy and takes steps to protect his family.

Mohanlal has several projects lined up. He will next be seen in Athimanoharam, directed by Tharun Moorthy and scheduled to release on December 24, 2026. The film, written by Ratheesh Ravi, stars Meera Jasmine alongside Mohanlal, with Mukesh, Jagadish and Manoj K. Jayan also appearing in key roles.

The confirmation has already generated interest among fans of the franchise, particularly because the previous films have maintained a strong focus on Georgekutty’s attempts to protect his family while staying ahead of the authorities. With the third film leaving important questions unresolved, the fourth instalment could potentially explore the consequences of Georgekutty’s decision to surrender and the fate of Anju.
