Actor-producer Jackky Bhagnani has described his marriage to actor Rakul Preet Singh as a "situationship" – yes, that was the word. The couple recently appeared together on a recent podcast, where they said their marriage rests on honesty, comfort and emotional independence.
The Bollywood couple, who met and fell in love during the Covid-19 pandemic, said they were already happy on their own before getting married. Being together has simply added to that happiness, they added.
During the chat with the YouTube channel Zingabad, Jackky said both of them had reached a stage in life where they had already seen enough ups and downs and were not looking for someone to fill a void.
The 41-year-old actor-producer said, "We told each other that we are not 20–21 years old anymore. We have both seen many ups and downs. Individually, I am a happy person. I am not looking for anyone to fill a void, because if I am a depressed person, no matter who comes into my life, I will be depressed. And individually, you are happy too. Together, we are happier."
Rakul was on the same page. The 35-year-old said they do not depend on each other to fill gaps in their lives. "It is not like, ‘You didn't take me for a holiday, so I am unhappy.' I can go on that holiday by myself. I think there are more important things in life to talk about," she said.
Jackky pointed out that even though they are married, he sees their equation as a situationship. "Rakul and I are married, but we are like in a situationship, which is, of course, we are exclusive to each other, because that’s why we are married. But the most important thing is that I can talk to her about anything," he said.
He also gave an everyday example, by saying that if an ex-girlfriend calls while Rakul is around, he answers the call on speaker. He said he keeps nothing hidden from his wife, and because of that, he does not feel suffocated. Quite the candid reveal, but that was his point: no secrets, no drama.
Rakul Preet Singh and Jackky Bhagnani dated for three years before getting married on February 21, 2024. Their wedding was held in Goa.
Since Rakul is Punjabi and Jackky is Sindhi, the couple had two ceremonies on the same day – an Anand Karaj in the afternoon followed by a Sindhi wedding in the evening. The celebrations were kept private with only family members and close friends in attendance.
