HBO making new Game of Thrones prequel: A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms

JJ News Desk

During a Warner Bros. Discovery event on Wednesday morning, HBO announced a new "Game of Thrones" prequel series titled "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms". The show, set to stream on HBO's platform, MAX, will follow the story of "Dunk and Egg," a knight and a young Targaryen squire living in Westeros around a century before the "Game of Thrones" events.

George R.R. Martin will write and executive produce the new series. He is also the author of the "A Song of Ice and Fire" novels. He will be joined by Ira Parker, who was a producer and writer on "House of the Dragon."

The plot of "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" is based on Martin's collection of short stories about Ser Duncan the Tall and Egg. In the series, Ser Duncan the Tall, a young, naive but courageous knight, and his diminutive squire, Egg, wander through Westeros during a time when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon is still fresh.

Unlike its predecessor, "House of the Dragon," which was filled with blood baths and gory sequences, "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" will have a lighter tone, showing Westeros in a different light. It is a story of friendship, with the history of the conflict yet to occur. The series will be a welcome treat for fans of the franchise, who are eagerly anticipating its release.

Although the release date for the show has not been revealed, it is expected to be as successful as its predecessor, "Game of Thrones." Fans are looking forward to seeing how the prequel will connect to the original series, especially after Martin confirmed that Ser Duncan was Brienne of Tarth's ancestor.
