Dhurandhar 2 Leaked Shootout Scenes Go Viral: Fans Compare It to Real-Life Lyari Gunfight

Leaked videos of Sanjay Dutt filming shootout sequences in Dhurandhar: The Revenge are drawing comparisons online to the infamous 2012 Lyari clash that left 7 dead. Fans can’t stop talking about reel versus real-life action.

The shooting is in the final stages for Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge, and the behind-the-scenes videos that have leaked from the sets in Mumbai have the fans abuzz. The shooting took place at Ballard Estate in South Mumbai, and the team has recreated a Lyari-style gully with utmost care. In the latest videos that have surfaced, Sanjay Dutt is seen in his full SP Chaudhary Aslam avatar complete with white pathani and all firing guns in a staged street ambush. Other videos that have leaked include the aftermath of the shooting, with smashed cars and a burning bike prop emitting thick smoke, along with an ambulance prop speeding by, as Dutt, as always, lights a cigarette before the director calls out, “Cut.”

Audiences were quick to notice the similarities on social media. On Reddit, a user joked that it was a “Jinn vs Hamza” battle in Dhurandhar 2, referring to Dutt’s nickname “The Jinn” and a clip of the police holding back relief trucks. Another fan posted that it appeared to be an exaggeration of “the famous moment where Chaudhry Aslam destroys food supplies and even an ambulance is held at the Lyari gate.” All these clips, trucks on fire, smoke billowing, guns firing, seemed to be straight out of Lyari’s history. Whether it was deliberate or not, these leaks have reignited the controversy of the film’s take on reality.

It’s not hard to see why. Lyari Town in Karachi was long synonymous with brutal gang warfare, and real footage from the area is hauntingly similar to the movie scenes. For instance, a widely circulated 2012 news clip now shared online as “Real vs Reel” footage shows police led by Chaudhry Aslam in a fierce gunfight with Baloch gang members in narrow Lyari lanes. Reports from the time said that particular clash left at least seven people dead and over 20 injured. Those killed included Ali of the Peoples Aman Committee and PPP leader Hassan Baloch and police claimed their action was spurred by the killing of activist Saqib Pathan in a disputed police operation. Officials even reported that rockets and hand grenades were used in the face‑off.

Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge, which hits cinemas on March 19, 2026 is a work of fiction inspired by true events. It brings back director Aditya Dhar with an ensemble cast of Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, Sara Arjun, Arjun Rampal, R. Madhavan, Rakesh Bedi, and others. Whether it is uncanny realism or just a coincidence, the viral videos have brought about a fresh wave of interest and controversy regarding Dhurandhar’s Lyari battlefield and its sequel.
