21-50 age limit for IVF: Centre flags Sidhu Moose Wala's mother’s case to Punjab

JJ News Desk

The Union Health Ministry has flagged the case of late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala's parents welcoming a baby via In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF), saying that a woman only between 21 to 50 years can give birth to a child with the help of technique. The late singer's mother Charan Kaur is 58-years-old.

The couple sought IVF to conceive their second baby nearly two years after they lost their only son, who was murdered on May 29, 2022, in Punjab's Mansa district. He was 28.

It sent a letter to the Punjab government dated March 14 and sought a report regarding Charan Kaur's IVF treatment.

The Ministry said that it came across a newspaper article on February 27 saying that Charan Kaur sought IVF treatment to conceive a child.

Confirming the development, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led government in Punjab tweeted on Wednesday that "Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann always respects the sentiments & dignity of Punjabis, it's the Central Govt that has asked for the documents".

It urged people to "have a look at the facts and not to believe in any rumours". On Tuesday, Sidhu Moose Wala's father Balkaur Singh accused the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government of harassment after their second son was born on March 17, saying that it was asking him "to furnish documents of the baby".

"They are questioning me to prove that this child is legal," he said in a video on Instagram. He, however, did not mention that the couple conceived their second child using IVF treatment. Balkaur Singh said he would produce all documents as he followed all the legal procedures.
