Amid the ongoing investigations into the alleged irregularities in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) exam, sources with the Central Bureau of Investigation on Saturday said a journalist was arrested in connection with the case.

The scribe was identified as Jamaluddin.

The arrest was made from Hazaribagh in Jharkhand.

Meanwhile, searches by the CBI were underway at seven locations, including Godhra, Kheda, Anand, and Ahmedabad in Gujarat.

On June 27, the CBI made its first arrests in the NEET-UG paper leak case in Bihar.

Two individuals, identified as Manish Prakash and Ashutosh, were arrested from Patna.

Manish Prakash, with the help of Ashutosh, had allegedly accommodated candidates at a boys' hostel, associated with the Learn Play School in Bihar's Patna on May 4, a day before the NEET exam where they were given leaked papers and answer keys, sources said.

On June 28, the CBI arrested the principal and vice principal of Oasis School in Jharkhand's Hazaribagh in connection with the NEET-UG paper leak case, officials said.

The CBI is investigating six cases related to the NEET paper leak. Of the six cases, one each is being investigated from Bihar, Gujarat, and Maharashtra, while three are from Rajasthan.

NEET-UG 2024, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), took place at 4,750 centres in 571 cities in which more than 24 lakh candidates appeared. The results were declared on June 4.

However, immediately after the results were announced, students raised allegations of irregularities when 67 students achieved top scores, amidst claims of question paper leaks in Bihar.
